SIR – We really should review our current building methods. Belle Vue Boys school, which dominated Manningham Lane for so long was deemed unfit for purpose around 50 years ago and a replacement was built.
The replacement school is now unfit for purpose and is to be replaced while the old school still exists and is still in use.
I presume that in another 50 years when the new (yet to be built) Belle Vue school is condemned, the original one will still be in good order and command Manningham Lane.
Think of all the other modern buildings which have been demolished.
The Provident building. The Bradford and Bingley, and the previous buildings now being replaced by the Westfield project.
It begs the question. How long will the Westfield Centre last before it needs replacing? How have we allowed building standard to drop so low?
