SIR – Almost every day, we now read and hear in the local and national media about adults, predominantly men, being brought to justice for child abuse. Many of these cases go back decades.
There is now no hiding place for those who have committed such crimes.
In relation to this, I find it quite unpalatable that those, particularly senior professional people in local authorities, who were paid high salaries and receive significant pension provisions, seem not to be accountable for the childrens’ care, even years after they retire.
The defence of “we did not know it was happening”, is not, in my opinion, acceptable.
