Shops under threat from supermarket
SIR – In his letter, (Letters March 10, Big new chain store will damage our shops) Cllr Kevin Warnes, quite rightly expresses concern that a large supermarket will be detrimental to the independent shops in the Saltaire area.
The concept of Town Centre Management addresses just this issue but, in the recent round of financial cuts, the post of Shipley Town Centre Manager has gone, saving a very small amount of cash.
In my 23 years working for Bradford Council I could have easily identified many savings, other than this, which would not have had such an impact on business and residents.
