SIR – When will people realise that we do not have a housing shortage?
The problem is the rising population. The population of our tiny island is now so great that we have already built so many homes, plus the infrastructure that goes with it, that we cause our already swollen rivers to burst their banks and flood homes and farmland.
Allowing the population to rise any further will lead to more flooding on an increasingly regular and more devastating scale. We need to reduce this trend, but of course we won’t.
The result will be increasing misery for home and land owners each and every year. Common sense will never take place because people are too determined to do what they think is the right thing. Unfortunately they are only causing increased misery for future generations.
