SIR – Your correspondent, Bob Watson may as well save his concern over the proposed scheme for 240 flats at a prominent Bradford city centre road junction for other matters (T&A, Feb 19).
The planners are the same ones that on a smaller scale allow the hideous sized dormer windows, inappropriately sized house extensions (on other house extensions) and misplaced iron railings (that would not look out of place outside Buckingham Palace) on modest Victorian and Edwardian terraced and semi-detached dwellings in the mainly poorer areas of the city.
They are to town planning aesthetics what our more bigoted right-wing political parties are to social cohesion. Of the proposal they no doubt think, “There are warts all over the city, another carbuncle, bunion or verruca will go unnoticed”.
Can you imagine such an attitude to planning in places such as Bath, Bristol, Cheltenham or even closer to home, Ilkley?
