SIR – John Hall (Letters, January 26) is quite right. The last (allegedly) Labour government should indeed have utilised their crystal ball and regulated the bankers of Wall St.

Sadly though, UK government influence does not extend to the US (although Wall St tentacles certainly have a good grip on this UK and EU administration) and therefore the financial crash (2008 model) cannot be attributed in any way to the last government On the on-going question of duplicity however, I note that this government has fast-tracked the so-called Infrastructure Bill.

This is a Bill which will allow UK fracking companies to drill absolutely anywhere they choose, even (and without any permission being required) underneath our homes.

The fracking process requires huge amounts of scarce water and cocktails of (often carcinogenic) chemicals to be forced into subterranean rock to release gas (and oil).

In the past, this process has caused earthquakes, massive contamination of water courses and the release of environmentally destructive, methane gas.

I note that the Bill was passed with a majority of 90, which seems to suggest that the ‘environmentally friendly’ Lib Dems, have once again sacrificed their ‘principles’ to the assumption that their Tory masters know better.
