SIR – The guided bus lanes along Manchester Road are not continuous. At some point the buses have to use the main highway in either direction and then they become stuck in traffic jams.
Wouldn’t it be more logical to have continuous lanes the full length of the highway, then passengers wouldn’t be late for work?
Along Huddersfield Road, the central grass verge once carried tramlines.
Could there not be guided-bus lanes placed here instead of bus lanes on the road, which forces residents to park their cars off road.
Manchester Road was once a three-laned road, the same as Wakefield Road. Why hasn’t this been converted into guided bus lanes?
With most of roads leading out of the city centre it wouldn’t be possible to do this as they aren’t wide enough. However, the problem can be solved by putting down tram lines. This system worked in Sheffield, why not here.
