SIR - Like the majority of Bradfordians I am really looking forward to the regeneration of our fine city.

The Westfield Broadway Development, together with the proposed underground retail project, is just what the city needs.

Sadly, because of the time taken for the regeneration to materialise, lots of people now shop elsewhere in Leeds, Halifax, Otley or Shipley.

I am sure that initially when the projects are completed people’s curiosity will compel them to return to Bradford once more.

In order to retain our much-needed shoppers and footfall we need something special, an edge, call it what you will!

When the centre of town around Kirkgate Centre was first completed it looked great and was much admired by one and all. Sadly, it is now littered with ‘blobs’ of white/grey chewing gum, which looks terrible and is absolutely disgusting.

It is high time someone in authority did something about it. Heavy fines come to mind. If nothing is done about the menace of chewing gum, these new projects, when completed, will be covered in gum, and all the time, effort and costs incurred will have been wasted. 10p tax on a packet of gum would help towards the cost!
