SIR - This week, Green Party membership across England, Wales and Scotland surged past Ukip and the Liberal Democrats. Over 4,000 people have joined the party in the past five days alone, and Bradford District Green Party has more than doubled in size in the past year.
This huge increase in Green support indicates that growing numbers of people are disillusioned with the ‘business-as-usual’ politics of the old parties.
They do not want creeping NHS privatisation, unfair welfare cuts or run-down local council services. They believe that Tory-Lib Dem austerity, largely supported by Labour, has gone too far, too fast.
They want change, and they like the positive ideas of the Greens. We want more affordable homes, a publicly-owned railway and decent public services.
This May, for the first time, all five of Bradford’s parliamentary constituencies will field Green candidates. Every Bradford voter will have the chance to voice their support for the most progressive force in British politics.
Cllr Kevin Warnes (Green, Shipley), Chair, Bradford District Green Party, and Green Party Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Shipley
