SIR – With regard to the planned installation of an Archimedean screw turbine at the site of the Salts Mill weir (T&A, January 12), I fail to understand all the hostility that is directed against this project.
Saltaire History Club apparently likens it to putting solar panels on the pyramids. How so?
All Titus’s machines were run by obtaining kinetic energy from the River Aire, and that is what this modern-day project is about.
Many people seem to be up in arms over anything new in their area and kick against it.
I believe this project will be a blessing for Saltaire and Yorkshire and will make a visitor attraction in the area of great interest to a great many.
