SIR –THE problems in A&E throughout the country have been well reported over the past few weeks.

It was therefore somewhat eye-opening to read in the T&A (January 10) that the chief operating officer at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust estimates that “about 30% of attendees to our emergency department could have been seen by a pharmacist or GP instead of coming to hospital.”

Surely the time has now come for virtually all such people to be refused treatment within A&E, and instead directed elsewhere. The clue is in the title - Accident & Emergency. Not hard to understand.
