SIR – I had recently had occasion to visit Harveys department store in Halifax and was reminded of the quality and ambience of Brown, Muff in Bradford, although on a smaller scale.
The tearoom and restaurant is very well patronised and exudes a charming atmosphere and quality goods are available to the discerning buyer. It is a credit to Halifax that a quality department store has survived modern trends and is a reminder of a bygone age. It is regrettable that Busbys, Brown, Muff and more recently Sunwin House have all fallen by the wayside in Bradford.
But perhaps a new renaissance is emerging with the Westfield development and the independent initiatives being taken on North Parade.
