SIR – In addition to being used as a political football, the national press and television have been at great pains to point out the alleged meltdown of our NHS.
This must come as a great surprise to the vast majority of NHS hospitals and GPs that are functioning quite well given the time of year and its attendant higher workload for these facilities.
If a workforce (however loyal and hard working) is constantly told that they are under-performing and missing targets set by amateurs, then pretty soon they will begin to believe it as a fact and morale will plummet.
Encouragement and thanks are what is needed not petty political point scoring.
A close family member has been extensively treated at both of Bradford’s main hospitals and the care from both was exemplary.
