SIR – Regarding Rose Mount in Manningham, threatened with demolition (T&A, December 31): may I recall my letter to the T&A, September 19, 2012, for the interest of readers?
Here it is: “Having an interest in Victorian architecture, particularly that of Bradford, I decided the other day to get some shots of Rose Mount – one of the earliest grand villas to be built in the Manningham area (east of Manningham Lane, in the Clifton Villas area) – once in use by the education service as the T F Davies centre.
Imagine my shock to find it in a state of total dilapidation, despite the fact that it seems to be owned by the Manningham Housing Association Ltd. May I ask whether this historic building is still in the care of that association, or whether it is now under Council care?
And what is going to be done about it? Is the intention to let it rot until there is no alternative but to demolish it? The house was built in the newly-popular ‘Jacobethan’ style, to designs by the Bradford architects Andrews and Delauney between 1849 and 1851, and is very important in the history of Manningham.”
