SIR – I refer to the recent letters relating to Low Moor shed in Bradford.
The highest-profile surviving steam locomotive which spent time at Low Moor was B1 61306 Mayflower which moved to Bradford from Hull in June 1967.
It was shedded there until it was withdrawn from service in September of that year.
Steam was being phased out and finished in August 1968.
The locomotive is a regular performer in preserved railways.
This is including the North Norfolk Railway where it is currently based, and on main line charter trains.
Another survivor is Fairburn 2-6-4T Number 42073 which actually had two spells at Low Moor in 1957, and from 1965.
This locomotive is currently in service on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway in Cumbria.
There its sister locomotive 42085 also survives.
This, interestingly, was a Manningham locomotive.
I photographed 42073 (pictured) during a very recent private charter on the Lakeside Line which proves that the locomotive is alive and well.
