SIR - Already one year has passed since Ukraine experienced dramatic events that will surely have many consequences for Ukraine and Europe as a whole for many years to come.

The protests in central Kiev against the government of Yanukovych; the subsequent deaths of innocent people that participated in these protests; and finally the flight of Yanukovych in the middle of negotiations with opposition politicians, could hardly have been predicted a year ago.

Today we all live within the context of these tragedies, of continued war, devastation and despair in eastern Ukraine. All these events remain a matter of great concern for people of Ukrainian origin, a part of whom also live in Bradford.

As celebrations of Christmas by the Julian calendar come upon us in January and we remember on that occasion our relatives in Ukraine and all their continuing suffering, it is difficult to imagine a better prosperous year for Ukraine in 2015 and its people because of the dangers and threats that still may lie ahead of them.

By overcoming indifference here, in this country, and showing support we also strengthen the spirit and determination of those peace-loving people living in Ukraine who have been unjustly wronged and made to suffer these terrible tragedies in their lives.
