SIR– Obtained a very interesting book, entitled Exploring Britain’s Lost Railways. It contains 50 long lost lines across the country. Included is the Low Moor to Thornhill (Dewsbury) which is now the Spen Valley Greenway Cycle/Footpath today.
The memories of boarding a train at Low Moor to visit my grandparents in Heckmondwike during the 50s and 60s are long gone but I will never forget.
Remembering the steam loco, pulling into the station, happy days. I’ve often wondered if any Low Moor based locos still exist, used on preserved lines. I have photocopies of five maps of Bradford, put them together from top to bottom, they include Frizinghall, southwards to Low Moor and part of Wyke.
Originals were printed in 1908. Large scale of 22 inches to a mile (three feet square) and clearly show all goods yards, mineral lines and tramways.
