SIR – Report in T&A (December 16) encourage more to cycle and walk. This is a good thing, keeps everyone fit but, walk to where! Walking to work is out.
As for seeing the amount of cars on the M62 and roads across Bradford all day long seven days a week. Not everyone lives within walking distance of work. Even supermarkets are not on everyone’s doorstep and quite a lot don’t live near a bus route, have to walk in pouring rain, to a stop without a shelter.
Getting the family shopping home, that’s why we use cars. We have no intentions of leaving it parked up and using the bus. Do all our councillors set an example by using buses to City Hall? The campaign for better transport mentions trains. I’m not out to make enemies but, has Mr Stephen Joseph looked at the train service in Bradford.
The stations are dotted along the Aire and Wharfedale lines. The Airedale line is on level ground, so ask those residents to cycle to Shipley and Bradford because one thing Mr Joseph has overlooked, the rest of the districts are all “up hill”.
