SIR – Would it not be a good idea for a political party to promise to plug the loopholes in our current laws and rules, to the eternal benefit of the country as a whole?

Plug the tax loopholes which enable our highest earners in the fields of entertainment, sport, finance and commerce, which enable them to keep all of their earnings without paying taxes.

They enjoy all the same benefits as the tax-paying working man who provides these services for them. A lot of these people are applauded on stage or onto the pitch when in fact they should be loudly booed.

The same loopholes should be plugged which allow foreign companies to trade over here and keep all their profits without paying tax. They will, of course, have to plug the loopholes exploited by politicians.

They should also plug the loophole which allows possibly unsafe taxis on our roads with no means of having them tested, and why not make it compulsory for travellers to use only designated sites provided for them by local councils. If they abuse them and make them unusable, then they will be the ones to suffer and will not be able to visit that locality.
