SIR – I feel like I need to write in to voice my opinion regarding Steve Ockerby, our fabulous governor at Shibden Head Primary Academy (T&A, December 18).
I don’t understand how the opinion of one school parent can ruin the fantastic work and reputation of a great man, father and school governor.
Steve Ockerby has been governor for five years and during that time he has worked very hard at making Shibden Head a safe and exciting place for our children to learn.
He has spent time reading with my son who is now in his final year, year six.
He has joined in the school trips, helped with appointing new teachers and head.
He is the first one there in the snow helping to clear the paths in order for school to open and be safe for parents, teachers and children.
He is always there smiling and helping with the school fairs etc.
Losing him is a massive loss to the school.
As a fireman it is hard to fit in family time around shift patterns and the fantastic work he does as school governor, and who would begrudge a hard-working family man?
