SIR – What a disgrace it is for a severely disabled teenager, Ellie McDonald, to have to face a work capability assessment by bureaucrats of the Government’s Department of Work and Pensions, seemingly an unsympathetic organisation (T&A, December 10).
Surely her medical records are enough proof of her disability. How could tick-box assessment help
What more would a tick box assessment do to help?
Fortunately her MP David Ward (Lib Dem, Bradford East) has helped in this case, for common sense to be applied. The requirement has been waived.
But what of other cases of severe disability facing a grilling?
We hear much from this Tory-dominated Government about fairness.
Where is the fairness here? Hasn’t this young person got enough problems?
Shame on this heartless Government.
