SIR – Should I thank A Michael Murphy for his further attempt to justify his position on the Palestinian/Israeli conflict, (Letters, December 15)? According to Mr Murphy: “A huge majority of Palestinians” desire Israel’s destruction.
Hmmmm! I’d like to know how he knows that. It seems to me that quite a few might entertain that idea, especially as there appears to be nothing that will stop Israel from stealing and settling Arab land (currently East Jerusalem).
What a fuss Israel made about the poor illegal settlers forced to leave Gaza! Elsewhere, thieves get a minimum of a slap on the wrist. Here they were hugged and caressed as they were led away! That must end if Israel is serious about respecting her neighbours and making peace.
Gaza is effectively a large prison camp. Naturally, its inhabitants use their resources to fight back. Look at what allied POWs achieved in the smaller, tighter-controlled Colditz Castle – making all kinds of things; building tunnels and even an aeroplane!
Mr Murphy’s feeble attempts to claim that Gaza is “free” because it fires rockets is one of the most pathetic attempts yet to justify Israel’s reckless actions.
