SIR - A treasurer who stole £30k from churches in deprived areas of Bradford has rightly been given a two year jail sentence (T&A, December 10).

What then are we to make of a report in the previous day’s paper which stated that a bookkeeper who stole £40k from her company, and virtually brought it to its knees, was only given a suspended sentence, and a farcical £1 compensation order.

To many of us the justice system is a joke, and this sort of ridiculous sentencing discrepancy merely highlights why this is so.
