SIR – The protesters against the plans for house-building in Idle, Thackley and Greengates should get together.
According to the planning department, 270 houses on Cote Farm, 268 on Simpson Green, 70 on land at Idle Moor and another 14 are planned for land off Highfield Road, Idle, which at the moment is refused (but no doubt will be re-applied for and succeed). A total of some 622 houses.
The traffic generated by these potential developments will choke the roads of the area completely and the fumes of so many additional cars will asphyxiate the residents.
All residents in the proposed houses will need to use Leeds Road or Five Lane Ends roundabout in order to travel to work and schools.
These roads are at capacity now. Before any decision is made by the planning committee on the developments as a total picture, I suggest Highways are asked to do a traffic audit at peak times and the Education Department does the same on school placements.
