SIR – As a Bradford born lad who enjoys the countryside, I bought as new the 1989 (second) edition of the Bradford Ringways booklet. This comprised an excellent guide to two circular walks around the outskirts of Bradford, on footpaths and tracks, each more than 30 miles long.
Unfortunately, I moved to Bridlington in 1990 and was not able to complete either walk.
Now back in the West Riding, I have finally completed both. I kept the booklet and it has certainly stood the test of time. For the most part, the guide could still be used to navigate on the footpaths and tracks on the edges of Bradford.
The book was written by Dr Paul Sheldon, the first edition in 1982. The introduction states he returned to Bradford after qualifying as a doctor.
I hope he enjoyed writing the booklet as much as I enjoyed the walks. It would be nice to thank him in person for his effort in writing this as well as my own happiness in not just finishing the walks, but also seeing some spectacular views and making me remember what beautiful countryside exists around Bradford.
Alas, I do not know whether he still lives in Bradford, but if he does – thank you.
