SIR – Labour have now been elected with a very slight majority, but a majority none the less.
I understand in your article some months ago, Bradford Council eventually disclosed that they have £99 million in cash reserve and £41 million in their school fund.
I suspect this would be more than enough to cover the cost of redundancies, closures of essential services and indeed, fund projects that help people in the district.
We ran a stall recently in the city centre on the right for workers to have a living £10 wage. We were absolutely inundated at one point with people three deep at the stall.
The people of this city understand the major issues they face with being paid often just over £5 per hour and that it is impossible to live on this. With these reserves, the Council could afford £10 as other authorities have done, and by paying this, people feel more valued and respected. Sadly, Labour councillors and politicians are a shadow of their party of the past. It is long overdue that the people of this great city had politicians that will not vote in further attacks on the poor. We shall see...
