SIR – Re Chris Tate’s article about Shipley toilets (T&A, May 26). It seems odd that the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council with a 2014 budget of £450 million for a population of 500,000 people cannot maintain a few suburban town centre public lavatories.
Of course, it is only a question of political priorities (and some compassionate ones I admit) as to where the cost cutting axe falls.
So lets have another look at, say, translation/interpretation costs or trade union facility time for savings, or even raise the price per visit or put something on Council Tax (ours is the lowest in West Yorkshire).
Shipley Market and bus station without a khazi is just too much of a public inconvenience.
