SIR – Yet again the Government tells us inflation is under two per cent. So why are we all struggling to keep the family going?

Here is a tip – check the weight and contents of the stuff you get on your next supermarket run. It’s the same price, the packaging looks the same but there’s less of it.

I wonder if the civil servants who compile consumer price index take this into consideration? Do the treasury mandarins do the shopping? Answers on a postcard!
