SIR – I agree with Terry Tordoff (Letters, May 13) regarding the abject destruction the EU has heaped upon the UK.
I also want out as I cannot see the EU refusing to trade with us when the UK loses £40 billion per annum in trade to the EU and is always called upon to bail out the complete fiasco of the Eurozone. They need us, we don’t need them when the world awaits our trade.
However one looks at it we have but one chance of getting a referendum in 2017. That is by having David Cameron as PM after next year’s General Election.
Miliband says a referendum only if Brussels comes for more powers and Clegg says not at all. If the ‘right’ votes for UKIP then there is every chance we get a Labour government on no referendum.
If the right can stick with Mr Cameron then whatever he supposedly negotiates back to the UK (which can be reclaimed under an alternative government) we will have the opportunity to vote for In or Out.
I for one want that opportunity but we will only get it if Mr Cameron is PM post the next General Election.
