SIR – Recently, together with members of the Bronte Country Partnership, I was informed of a new broadband initiative called Super Connected Cities by Sarah Howsen, the tourism officer for the CoBMDC.
She explained grants are being offered to businesses for setting up 30mb broadband speeds within the city, and that businesses within the Worth Valley ward are being encouraged to apply for up to £3,000.
I am aware these grants are for businesses, but if it requires the installation of fibre-optic cables or WiFi hubs, then I am sure domestic connection will follow.
This money is from the Government, and is part of the £1 billion Superfast Britain programme, of which £790 million is earmarked to extend superfast broadband to 95 per cent of the UK by 2017, and is being advertised and supported by the CoBMDC. The scheme is supported by more than 200 broadband providers, and BT and Virgin are among them.
If anyone wishes to obtain more details, the leaflets outlining the scheme and containing contact numbers and details of the scheme are available in the reception area at Keighley Civic Centre, by visiting superconnectedleedsbradford.co.uk, or call (0113) 3950357.
