SIR – I see that Mr Hobsbaum is at it again (Letters, May 2), playing the same anti-UKIP record over and over.

I am getting fed up of hearing the same boring lyrics to this record put out by Government-backed media and the big parties – “If we leave the EU, we will lose jobs and investment”.

As Shakespeare remarked: “Facts are stubborn things”.

The fact is we as a country were thriving in business before EU membership; farming, engineering, ship-building, textiles, fishing, etc.

Most of these industries are now sadly on their knees due in part to ridiculous EU rules and regulations.

Let’s turn this record over for a change and listen to the B side.

Have we forgotten about countless tons of bananas consigned to land fill to pollute the environment because they weren’t the right shape to meet EU rules? The same with fruit a millimetre too small.

Do we forget most of our fishing fleet are out of work because of EU catch “quotas” which the EU now admits they got wrong?

Yes, Mr Hobsbaum, please write and tell us all about the benefits of our continuing membership of the EU.

Answers on a postage stamp please!
