SIR – Results from a study conducted by Sight Care and published in the Telegraph & Argus (April 15) found that 36 per cent of drivers felt that their eyesight was not up to scratch.
Some said they couldn’t see well at night, others even confessed their daytime vision was ‘blurry’ when in their cars. Amazingly, a percentage of new Bradford drivers admitted they were unable to see the registration plate during the eyesight assessment in their driving test but were still given their licence.
As nearly 3,000 people are killed every year in car accidents caused by poor eyesight, isn’t it time it was made obligatory for drivers to have regular eye tests?
The danger posed by those ubiquitous potholes pales in comparison to the Sight Care revelations.
