SIR – B Barraclough thinks that all Bradford councillors should pay back the fees and expenses they received during their term of office so that taxpayers’ money would not have to be spent on repairing the roof of City Hall (Letters, April 30). Come off it!

Then he says that in the old days to be a councillor was a privilege and they were not paid, seemingly unaware that only wealthy citizens became city fathers, knowing full well that considerable kudos is attached to such a position.

Does he think today’s councillors are so rich they don’t need to be paid expenses?

I do so wish a member of Bradford Council would comment on this man’s nonsensical ideas.
