SIR – One of the biggest issues facing Britain today is housing. The major shortage continues with available homes of the right sort, at the right price, in the right place in extremely short supply.

In London, prices go on rising massively but even elsewhere there are difficulties with buying and renting and social housing remains at a premium.

There is a need for many more affordable homes to be built all over the country but at the same time there are many properties lying empty and available sites in towns and cities which could be renovated and made usable.

This is an aspect that should be made a top priority for the incoming Government after the May 2015 General Election but the present Government could also be trying to do more right now.
