SIR – Re your article ‘Care worker went on spending spree with credit cards of her dementia patient, 81’. (T&A Saturday, April 26) Bluebird Care operates an excellent standard of service across our network and we expect the highest levels of quality, professionalism and expertise from all of our staff.
These regrettable actions were reported at an early stage by an employee of Bluebird Care (Bradford North), allowing us to deliver an immediate response by initiating our internal disciplinary procedures, and to alert the relevant authorities.
The person who spotted Sarah Wright’s car tax had been renewed, despite the fact that she did not own a car, was a Bluebird Care employee and former colleague of Sarah’s, who reported the discrepancy to us. The local office then responded immediately, alerting the police, the Disclosure & Barring Service, and the Care Quality Commission.
Ms Wright was instantly suspended pending further investigation. When charges were brought by the police, she was dismissed. In this sense, Bluebird Care was instrumental in ensuring that the care worker was investigated and ultimately prosecuted – something we believe is not reflected in the article.
Bluebird Care remains committed to ensuring that our customers receive the best quality care in their own home and we respond immediately to any instances where we have fallen short of our high standards.
