SIR – Mr Barraclough of Low Moor is living in a dream world regarding the re-opening of the Spen Valley line (Letters, March 24).

He has talked in the past about trains “straight to the heart of the Dales”; we already have those from Leeds, Shipley and stations to Skipton and beyond.

He talks about “mail trains” going to Leeds; what mail trains? The Royal Mail withdrew most if not all their traffic from the railways years ago and it now thunders up and down the motorways or is flown between airports.

He is at least going to get his new station at Low Moor in about 18 months when he can catch – to quote him – “a train to Leeds no matter where you wish to go”.

SELRAP have been trying to get the line from Skipton to Colne re-opened. It is a very active campaign group formed in the summer of 2001. It claims to have 891 organisations,754 politicians, 500 other members, plus 67 affiliated groups campaigning for this to happen.

No track laying has started because Network Rail & Northern don’t appear interested.

Is there a campaign group of equal standing in the area for the re-opening of Spen Valley Line?
