SIR – As a pedestrian I use the pavement to get around the county. I used to be able to do that in safety, but no longer. I now have to be aware of uninsured cyclists, who without any warning speed past me.
That safety is further compromised because of vehicles being driven on to the pavement and parked. It has become an acceptable car/lorry park.
The police have issued a leaflet saying wheelie bins and vehicles should not be parked on a pavement, yet they ignore vehicles and fine you for a wheelie bin.
These owners are not satisfied with using part of the pavement, they want it all. They park in such a way that in order to pass, you have no option but to step into the road. Wheelchairs and pushchairs are more at risk.
If a pavement is 5ft wide (preferably six) or less, parking should not be allowed. If parking is to be allowed, it has to be regulated and marked. No marking, no parking.
When is something going to be done to give us back the safety of a pavement and penalise those anti-social drivers? The police need to get their finger out and issue a ticket to any vehicle on the pavement.
