SIR – In recent years, we have witnessed all the extremes that our fickle weather can throw at us.
This year we have been plagued with a tempest of Shakespearean proportions.
Boffins the world over are divided on the reasons for these extreme weather events.
On one hand, we have the ‘global warmers’ telling us that we are burning too much coal and oil and that our cattle are breaking wind too much causing a build-up of greenhouse gases.
On the other, we have the ‘natural earth cycle’ brigade telling us that the natural earth tilt has got a bit of a ‘wobble on’.
Why do they not look to the natural cause for these events? We shouldn’t upset God when he’s in one of his moods.
I would strongly advise the Government against taking its usual course of action during periods of extreme weather – a hose pipe ban.
