SIR – The headline “Culture of greed” in the T&A on Monday, February 24, in respect of compensation claims against Bradford Council for alleged injuries to pupils in area schools, is perhaps indicative of the times we live in. And it’s all about money – or lack of it.

On the other hand, I read that an ex-BBC Radio1 DJ who had a contract earning of £500,000 a year had employed NT advisors – specialists in exploiting loopholes in the system to avoid tax repayment amounts – hoping to achieve a saving of up to £1 million in tax repayments over a period of time, again, an indicative episode.

Add to this further reporting that a well-known comedian and a well-known soap-star actor were listed among directors of another company set up to save huge sums of money for the rich – the company was closed after changes in the law – highly indicative, I’d say?

It would appear that for some, a lot is never enough. I would suggest therefore that it’s also indicative that whoever coined the saying ‘money is the root of all evil’ most certainly knew what they were talking about.
