SIR – Is there any wonder that elderly patients are being forgotten about and neglected in the health service?
I have seen local elderly people struggle to walk to the local health centre only to be told there were no appointments available and to try another day.
They can sit for an hour on the phone at 8.15am only to be told there are no appointments left, try the next day.
Then to alienate these elderly people even further, the surgery offers online booking for an appointment. How many 80-year-old people have access to a computer, let alone use one? It’s disgusting!
There is no wonder the A&E departments are inundated with minor ailments – people can’t wait two or three weeks when they feel ill.
I suppose there is a plus side – train a LOT of people in pathology to cope with all the autopsies on folk who die before they are seen and diagnosed. That will reduce the numbers of those out of work.
