SIR – Bradford Council won’t back the HS2 project. I totally agree with them. Bradford won’t benefit from it at all. Others on this page have mentioned the cross-rail link recently, something that will benefit this city, but there are those who think it won’t.
The HS2 would then be ideal. A railway straight through the heart of the Dales. Coming from London, passengers would be able to admire the scenery. Mind you, going at 250mph they wouldn’t see much.
Who wants to go so fast? What’s the rush to get to London? Trains serve meals during the two-and-a-half hours it takes to get to London. Going so fast you wouldn’t have time to get through the first course.
It’s a terrible thing to mention, but what if this came off the rails? It doesn’t bear thinking about.
No, the HS2 is of no use to Bradford. We would still have to get to the capital of Yorkshire to board it, just as we have to in order to board the East Coast train.
The billions it will cost to build this would be far better spent on reopening rural lines across the country where commuters can leave their cars at home instead of jamming up our roads.
Freight terminals built to carry containers and other goods instead of having the thousands of HGVs on our roads, which can be aggravating when one is trying to overtake another on dual-carriageways, holding up traffic.
