SIR – Re the T&A report of Saturday, February 15, of a teenager who mowed down a woman while fleeing police.
He was sentenced to two years in a young offender institution, banned from driving for two years, ordered to pay £100 victim surcharge.
When he’s released he will be healthy, yet this woman had a fractured skull, bruising to the brain, no sense of smell and suffers headaches. What is it with this country’s justice system?
We read every day of people receiving suspended sentences, free to walk the streets while their victims are left to suffer.
People like him should be deterred from committing any crimes by being given from eight to ten years and banned from driving for life.
No matter what the crime, we have to clamp down. The police have a difficult job patrolling our streets, but seem to be powerless most times.
The Americans have the answers – 30 years for some crimes, and they have the death penalty in some states. Should we reintroduce hanging?
