SIR – Now that the sparks have died down from the proposal to install a subsidised electric car charging point in Ian Clough car park in Baildon, it is worth considering the experiences of a family from Keighley (as published in the national press) who purchased an electric car in March 2013.

They were told that the car would do up to 100 miles on a charge. However, when fully charged, the predicted range was only 68 miles, but after travelling 41 miles they were left with only a further eight miles range.

When they challenged the dealer about this poor mileage, they were told that there was nothing wrong with the car, but that it was the hilly terrain that was contributing to the poor performance!

Now the whole area we live in is hilly, apart from Canal Road, so any owners of electric cars thinking of coming up to Baildon for a top-up should make sure they have enough juice in their batteries to reach the charging point!
