SIR – Re: ‘Financial Facts’, Alan Holdsworth’s letter (T&A, February 10). I do wish he would pay attention! I admitted to an oversight in relation to inflation in an earlier letter, not to not understanding.
I do agree with Mr Holdsworth about Thatcher neutering workers’ negotiating bodies – and about time, too! Unions held the rest of the population to ransom on a number of occasions, disrupting lives and work.
I’m much more concerned about non-unionised workers and the truly poor and needy.
It’s a pity that Labour did not agree with Mr Holdsworth and restore the unions’ moderating influence. Another reason to blame them for the “economic and financial chaos” of today!
