SIR – In order to save around £200,000 over the next two years, Bradford Council plans to reduce the opening times at the eight household waste/recycling centres across the district. I have a better plan.

At each centre there is a ‘Permit Checker’ on daily duty. Let’s assume that each ‘Permit Checker’ earns at least £15,000 a year. That totals £120,000 a year or £240,000 over two years.

Do I need to say what my better plan is?
