SIR – On Tuesday morning, January 4, I noticed a strange phenomenon out of my window which I took to be a UFO – a strange glowing ball in the sky.
This turned out to be the sun, and in consequence I bethought me to risk an hour or so on the allotment.
I managed to get the grape vine pruned in the greenhouse and dug compost into the beds.
On leaving the greenhouse, I noticed something very strange for this time of year – a dandelion weed in full flower on one of the paths.
I do not have the knowledge to categorically blame global warming for this, but there is certainly something extremely daft going on with our weather in recent years.
No doubt, come spring, we can all anticipate a hard winter, and as Mr Dylan warned us: ‘A hard rain’s gonna fall’.
Ho well, always look on the bright side of life.
