SIR – Mr Boyes suggests that 16 is too young to vote. I have to say that I would generally agree with that statement were it not for the fact that some parts of the state –the NHS – treat 16-year-olds as adults.
My own grandson is ill and, were he 15 instead of 16, he would have had paediatric care and therefore immediate treatment.
Unfortunately, he is apparently now an adult and already has waited a month for treatment – at least two attempts to hospitalise him have failed due to lack of a bed.
I must therefore submit that if 16-year-olds can be treated as adults in one area, then they should be eligible for a vote.
