SIR – There is a saying, “as different as chalk and cheese” – and it could never apply more than to some of the road junctions in Bradford.
One of my regular routes is Fagley Road and Gain Lane, where the traffic signals at that junction of five roads are first-class, with filters to allow right turns that automatically adjust to the traffic flow so there are never any hold-ups.
What a contrast at the junction of two of the busiest A roads in Bradford – New Line and Harrogate Road, Greengates. Down there, there is no provision for vehicles turning right across the main flow and, worse than that, no provision on any of the four arms of that crossroads for pedestrians who must take their lives in their hands.
All of which increases congestion and pollution and danger to the public.
Worse than that, this problem is not new – in fact, known for decades – yet nothing has ever been done. Why?
Maybe it’s time Council leader Mr Green listened to the concerns of those regularly inconvenienced at Greengates.
