SIR – The T&A tells us (January 29) that a 19-year-old Bradford man was fined £90 by the police for falsely reporting that he and a 29-year-old woman had been “car-jacked” in Legrams Lane by two men who had taken his vehicle.
Detective Inspector Alan Flynn of Bradford CID obviously considered that this fine was an acceptable punishment. Well, I am sorry, but I most certainly do not.
This punishment is totally inadequate, and provides no sort of deterrent whatsoever.
The culprit was not even named, and therefore shamed, in the paper.
No wonder that so many of us continue to despair at our pathetic and unduly lenient justice system.
