SIR – On the question of ‘is there a real economic recovery or isn’t there a real economic recovery?,’ perhaps this comment from the Daily Telegraph this week (which is usually sympathetic to the Conservative party) provides a clue.
Jeremy Warner wrote: “The economy has been juiced to give the Coalition parties a boost ahead of the election, but with the deficit not yet tackled and glaring gaps in industrial competitiveness and a runaway housing market, we are still a million miles away from economic salvation.”
So, with Chancellor Osborne refusing to rule out cutting the top rate of tax yet again from 45 per cent to 40 per cent and Labour’s charge that the ‘recovery’ (such as it is) has been for the few rather than the many, it looks as if not much on the political ‘landscape’ has changed.
